A well-made rug can last for decades. A little regular care is all it needs.
Vacuum gently
Vacuum once a week with suction only (switch off the rotating brush), moving with the direction of the pile. Never vacuum the fringe — turn it under or use a hand attachment.
Rotate it
Turn the rug every three to six months so foot traffic and sunlight are spread evenly.
Deal with spills straight away
Blot, never rub. Work from the edge of the spill towards the centre with a clean white cloth and a little cold water.
Professional cleaning
Every one to two years, have the rug cleaned by a specialist in handmade rugs. Avoid soaking tufted rugs: their backing does not like water.
